Flights to northern areas cancelled amid security concerns
All flights to Gilgit, Skardu, and other northern areas were cancelled on Wednesday due to security reasons.
According to officials, the step is temporary and will be reviewed based on how the security situation evolves. Pakistan has tightened its air surveillance and strict new directives issued to air traffic control across the country.
All foreign flights flying over Pakistan, especially those coming from India, will be strictly monitored, according to sources.
The move is part of a wider national security effort aimed at ensuring quick response to any unusual aerial activity. Under revised guidelines, any suspicious flight now needs high-level clearance before being allowed to continue.
In view of this situation, the flights to Gilgit and Skardu have been cancelled for today and passengers have been advised to contact their respective airlines for rescheduling and latest updates.
Authorities say the situation is being closely monitored and further decisions will depend on the evolving security landscape.
Aviation authorities have been ordered to stay on high alert and strictly enforce the updated security protocols.
The development follows a late-night statement from Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, who revealed “credible intelligence” indicating that India may attempt military action against Pakistan within the next 24 to 36 hours, using “baseless allegations” over the Pahalgam attack as a pretext.
Last night, PAF enhanced aerial surveillance after detecting four Indian Air Force Rafale jets conducting a patrol mission over Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, while remaining within Indian airspace on the night between April 29 and April 30.
